Established in 1999, Cordaid encourages older people to participate in society. It works with more than a 1,000 partner organisations worldwide to ensure older people can lead dignified lives. It also collaborate with partners to advocate for older people's rights around the world.
Since 2004, Cordaid has supported 10 of its partners and the communities they work with to build locally-managed disaster risk reduction programmes. Cordaid also works to strengthen older people's resilience, peace-building skills and their participation in long-term development.
Cordaid and HelpAge International have worked together on a number of projects including providing access to basic facilities for older people living in slums.
In 1999, Cordaid became a member of the HelpAge network and an affiliate in 2004. Cordaid also takes part in the Age Demands Action campaign to raise awareness of the rights of older people.
